Cricket as a Canvas - Ed Smith on Sport, Art, and the Science of Decision-Making

Welcome back!

I’m delighted to return with more BS podcasts; now refreshed and with a new focus on sport. And I’m co-hosting with the wonderful Liam Botham, ex professional cricketer and rugby player.

In this first of a new series, we talk to former England international, Kent and Middlesex cricketer Ed Smith. Ed is also a prolific writer and broadcaster, past England national selector and now founder of the Institute of Sports Humanities which teaches a unique degree in sports leadership.

In this episode

  • What sport and cricket mean to Ed

  • What the study of history has taught Ed about sport

  • The problem with team talks

  • Emotionally intelligent coaches

  • Team selection and risk taking

  • How to make good decisions

  • Sport as art

Exclusive events

Liam and I are launching a sports and entertainment business network for which we are hosting exclusive, intimate events.

The first one is on June 17th in London when we will be joined for a panel discussion by Lord Ian Botham, Sir Andrew Strauss and Mo Bobat.
